「stick」指的是「枝条、细木」，而「mud」则为「泥土」。我们可以用「stick in the mud」形容一个人的性格「乏味、古板」。
2.I want to fix you two up. 我想撮合你们两个。
fix做动词大家比较熟悉的是“确定、修理”的意思。比如： to fix a date for a meeting 决定开会日期
I asked the boy to fix the bicycle. 我请这个小伙子修自行车。
同时，fix还有“安排、准备”的意思。 "If you want to meet the director, I can fix it." "如果你想会见董事,我可以安排。"
这里的「fix up」有「撮合、配对」之意。例如：「John plans to fix them up on date.」（约翰打算藉由约会把他们凑成一对。）
3.You're just playing with me! 你只是在开我玩笑吧！
4.A: What kind of dog do you have? 你养哪一种狗？ B: He's not full-blooded anything, he's just a mutt. 它不是纯种的，它只是一只杂种狗。
这里full-blooded表示“纯种的”，而mutt则表示“蠢人, 笨蛋, 杂种狗”的意思。
5.The computer hacker failed to completely cover his tracks and was arrested a couple days later. 那名计算机骇客没有彻底湮灭证据，一、两天后就被捕了。
大家注意这里的Cover one's Tracks的用法：
Cover是覆盖的意思。Track是一个人走过时留下的痕迹。所以，要覆盖这些痕迹，意思就是“消灭证据”的意思了。
