Tips:

l  You can very briefly recap a few high points in your life story (like in a sentence or two), but the question is about more than just “let’s get acquainted.”

l  Your education and prior work history may be worth brief mention, depending on relevance, but this should be on your resume and job application and thus need not be given in full detail.

l  The greatest emphasis should normally be on your recent career experience and how it qualifies you for the job in question.

l  If that’s a stretch — such as because you’re relatively young and inexperienced or looking to make somewhat of a career change — focus on the general qualifications and personal attributes you feel make you qualified.

Outline:

1. Provide a brief introduction. Introduce attributes that are key to the open position.

Sample introduction:

During my 10 years' of experience as a sales manager, I have mastered the ability to coach, train, and motivate sales teams into reaching corporate goals.

2. Provide a career summary of your most recent work history. Your career summary is the "meat" of your response, so it must support your job objective and it must be compelling. Keep your response limited to your current experience. Don't go back more than 10 years.

Sample career summary:

Most recently, at The Widget Corporation, I was challenged with turning around a stagnant territory that ranked last in sales in the North-eastern region.

Using strategies that have worked in the past, I developed an aggressive sales campaign that focused on cultivating new accounts and nurturing the existing client base. The results were tremendous. Within six months my sales team and I were able to revitalize the territory and boost sales by 65%.

3. Tie your response to the needs of the hiring organization. Don't assume that the interviewer will be able to connect all the dots. It is your job as the interviewee to make sure the interviewer understands how your experiences are transferable to the position they are seeking to fill.

Sample tie-in:

Because of my proven experience in leading sales teams, Craig Brown suggested I contact you regarding your need for a sales manager. Craig filled me in on the challenges your sales department is facing.

4. Ask an insightful question. By asking a question you gain control of the interview. Don't ask a question for the sake of asking. Be sure that the question will engage the interviewer in a conversation. Doing so will alleviate the stress you may feel to perform.

Sample question:

What strategies are currently underway to increase sales and morale within the sales department?

A person is defined in three ways: (1) who he is right now, (2) what he has done in the past, and (3) what he will become in the future.

So, here is how you answer: (1) I am a [the job title for which you are applying or something very close.] (2) I have [how many years of experience] in [what field, what subject]. (3) I want to be [a job title that is a couple or a few levels above the current position for which you are applying in 5 to 10 years.] Close your answer with an affirmative question: "Is there anything else you want to know?"

Conclusion

This question is very difficult for me. Right now I’m still not prepared. The samples given above, I think, are not very good. Before going any further, I’d like to take a break from now on because I have to define myself clearly. Figure out:

l  What are my skills?

l  What is my strength?

l  What is my personality?

      最近在重读《富爸爸 穷爸爸》，虽然说这本书是关于理财的，但是书中第七章关于工作的观点，还是很值得推崇的。

      罗伯特·清崎学生时为了学习从事国际贸易，去跑货运，做船员；后来放弃英国标准石油公司的工作，加入海军陆战队，学习指挥部队和管理；退役后，又加入施乐公司学习推销和市场营销。通过这一系列工作中的学习，罗伯特·清崎成为了一名富翁，实现了财务自由。

       罗伯特·清崎学的是不是和我们学的很不一样。我们毕业后，进入公司，努力学习技术和业务，等技术和业务熟练之后，就想着跳槽，跳到一家工资更高或者福利更好的的公司去。

       其实，主要原因并不是我们学的不一样，而是我们的工作目的不一样。我们的工作目的是为了金钱，所以专注于学技术，达到“专业化”；罗伯特·清崎的目的是为了学赚钱，专注于学管理和经营。

       大部分人都有成为富人的梦想，但大部分人的梦想都没有实现，原因就在于工作的目的。罗伯特揭露了工作的丑恶面目：

Tips:

• It's not that they really care about this answer. It's more of a "will this person trip over themselves, badmouth his former employer, or give out too much information" to screen themselves out. So don't do any of that. Many questions are meant to be handled and not answered in a job interview. 

• Never speak poorly about your current (previous) employer. This question is an opportunity to sell yourself, not air your dirty laundry.

• Always consider what the job requires, and think about an answer that contrasts what your previous company didn't have but this current job does. If you are looking to move from a large company to a small company, you might say you've had a wonderful experience seeing how a large company does business, and you are looking to apply that knowledge you've gained in a setting where you'd have greater responsibility and more accountability for your decisions.

• Never talk negative about the current organization. Don't say you are unhappy with the systems and processes there. If the reason you are leaving for pay, say that. Talk about the challenges that you have faced and how you have been able to solve them. Talk to the prospective employer saying that you are looking for a more challenging and more responsible position. Talk about your accomplishments and tell him how you can contribute to the new employer.

• Don't say you want to leave your current job because you're not earning enough. More $$$ is NOT THE ANSWER they want to hear. "Oh Look, someone who is leaving for more money! Welcome aboard!" There are really only 3 reasons: Location (commute way too long); Family Matter (new kid, etc.)' Opportunity. That's it.

Sample answers

• I found myself bored with the work and looking for more challenges. I am an excellent employee and I didn't want my unhappiness to have any impact on the job I was doing for my employer.
• There isn't room for growth with my current employer and I'm ready to move on to a new challenge.
• I'm looking for a bigger challenge and to grow my career and I couldn't job hunt part time while working. It didn't seem ethical to use my former employer's time.
• I was laid-off from my last position when our department was eliminated due to corporate restructuring.
• I'm relocating to this area due to family circumstances and left my previous position in order to make the move.
• I've decided that is not the direction I want to go in my career and my current employer has no opportunities in the direction I'd like to head.
• After several years in my last position, I'm looking for an company where I can contribute and grow in a team-oriented environment.
• I am interested in a new challenge and an opportunity to use my technical skills and experience in a different capacity than I have in the past.
• I recently received my degree and I want to utilize my educational background in my next position.
• I am interested in a job with more responsibility, and I am very ready for a new challenge.
• I left my last position in order to spend more time with my family. Circumstances have changed and I'm more than ready for full-time employment again.
• I am seeking a position with a stable company with room for growth and opportunity for advancement.
• I was commuting to the city and spending a significant amount of time each day on travel. I would prefer to be closer to home.
• To be honest, I wasn't considering a move, but, I saw this job posting and was intrigued by the position and the company. It sounds like an exciting opportunity and an ideal match with my qualifications.
• This position seemed like an excellent match for my skills and experience and I am not able to fully utilize them in my present job.
• The company was cutting back and, unfortunately, my job was one of those eliminated.

Conclusion

Keep it positive and make the reason for a leaving a constructive one such as a new challenge, exciting opportunity, increased responsibility or learning possibility.

I cannot really say I am any better than the other candidates as I have never met them. However I can tell you that I feel I am suited to the position offered because... Then you go into the strengths that you have for the job in hand and the skills that you posses.

Answer 2

I assume you are looking for someone with a solid track record in sales and marketing of automotive parts. I will bring to this job 12 years of progressive experience in all phases of sales and marketing of both domestic and foreign automotive parts. In my last job I increased sales by 20 percent each year for the past five years. I have a consistent pattern of performance employers readily seek, including your competition. I would think this is something your organization would want to bring on board.

Answer 3

If I look carefully at my previous experience, I know there is one thing that really stands out: I’m successful at what I do. Take…for example, the time my supervisor asked me to develop a new approach to marketing DVD players. We knew we had a poor market situation since DVDs were quickly displacing videos. So I came up with the idea of marketing our Tatus DVD player along with the Tatus VCR as part of a special Spring College Special. We learned many buyers were still reluctant to purchase a DVD player but they weren’t sure if they should buy a VCR. So we included a free VCR with the DVD player. Our market research showed it was mainly the parents who made the purchase as a gift for their child. Many of these buyers could identify with the VCR but not the DVD player. As a result of this marketing scheme, we realized a 330-percent increase in sales of both the DVD player and VCR.  It’s this type of talent I will bring to your organization. I enjoy developing solutions to challenging problems. My supervisors usually turn to me for marketing ideas that will work.

Similar Questions

• Why do you think you are suited to this job?
• Why should we hire you?
• What will you bring to this position that other candidates can’t?

Conclusion

There is a trap in this question. Do not get pulled into the trap of trying to blow your own trumpet. The fact remains that you will not know the other candidates unless you know them previously before you come to the interview. Even if you did know the person, it would be hard to know all their qualifications and skills that they may have from previous positions, so technically it would be hard to even know if you are better than them.

So to answer this question, you need to focus on your skills and strength that is relevant to the job.

Task：先帮贱女人找公司文件，再发会议通知。

Action：从2009的文件一个一个过，一直过到2008年，终于找到了，发给贱女人。

Result：贱女人不知道是受到刺激了，自己不知道在哪里找我却这么快就找到了，还是怎么着，冒了一句：你这是不是最新的？你们这帮小孩子干事怎么这样？

Reaction：笑了笑，没理她。当着她面打电话，给总部，问了是不是最新，总部很肯定的说是最新的，贱女人不吭声了。我走开了，继续干活。

Reflection：贱女人让我帮她找，我二话没说帮她找了。找到之后却反过来找茬。我到底哪里惹到她了？估计就是没按贱女人的“指导”，先干什么后干什么。面对这种女人我真是没辙了。难道她说东我就不能朝西，她让干什么我就得干什么？

老实说，我没有想好自己的答案，因为这个问题之前从来没有思考过，现在一时半会儿也找不出一个满意的答案。我想选B，但是像大多数人一样，我也不知道自己的兴趣所在。选A，高薪，意味着责任、繁忙，不是我想要的。针对缺少经验的现在的我，能随意跳槽对我到是有几分诱惑。我现在有空，就会去一些管理类网站上看看文章，那我是想当领导吗？

见了多年不见得朋友，除了吃喝玩乐，就是谈心，发觉大家都有一种“在里面的想出去，在外面的想进来”的无奈。

要出国的博士同学，羡慕我们这些已经工作的，觉得我们有钱花了；我们这些工作的，又羡慕他们上学的，时间自由，不会受到职场上的不公平待遇。

在外企的同学，羡慕我们这些在国企工作的，出差有补助，去机场公司派车接送；而我们这些在国企的又羡慕他们，出差住四星宾馆，出门打的，吃饭什么的统统报销。

在A国企的又羡慕在B国企的，奖金多，过节发的购物卡多。

也许，是时候再读一下《围城》了。真的很无奈！

大家也许注意到了，我只给了自己两个选择，没有考虑在原公司继续干下去。之所以不考虑这个选择，一是遭遇了“办公室政治”（详见之前的《一年之痒》），让我觉得没有仕途；二是没有钱途，在国企工资很低，由于在职能部门，奖金当然没有生产部门多，而且工作吃力不讨好；三是没有前途，我是工科背景出身的，还是有技术情结的，但是一毕业就从事了质量体系管理，一份在6sq论坛上人人说没前途的职业；四是工作硬件环境不好，由于部长不愿意从事质量管理工作，一直没来上海分公司，因此我们部门就分了一个很差得办公室，我的就更惨了，没有窗子，不通风，不见阳光，像做牢。因此，我选择了离开，虽然我签了3年的合同。

离开，就要考虑去哪儿了。到底是继续从事质量管理，还是换一个行业从事技术？不禁让我担心的是，自己不再是应届毕业生，没有经验，转行做技术的话，会有人愿意要我吗？继续从事质量管理工作，工资待遇都不高，公司还不如现在的有名气。

这个跳槽，转行都有些困难，我又想到了出国留学，但仍然是一大堆问题。首先，自己年龄不小了，都快30了，GF还没有，房子还没买，还是独生子，父母还要照顾，能这么拍拍屁股走人吗？其次，出国读什么专业？没有方向，名校进去还是有点难度的。再者，我的托福还没考，Paper也没有，想申请奖学金还是有点困难的。我在国外的同学告诫我，出国之后要担心的东西更多：我的研究、论文、助教资格等等。又是一条未知之路。

一直很佩服我的两个大学同学。一个本科毕业后，放弃了工作，骑自行车去西藏，现在又辞了职，去东南亚玩。另一个女生本科期间努力学习，去了美国top 50的学校。可恨我自己没有这个勇气，也没有这个毅力。

感觉自己很迷茫，痛苦中~~~

一个总设计师不遵守公司的规定，公司副总工程师发邮件给我，写了很多质问。没有搞清楚该副总工程师的意思，就跑去找了不懂规定的总设计师。在与总设计师交谈中，忘记了自己此行的目的，变成了我质问该总设计师，且站在了副总工程师这边。　

总结一下，今天犯的错误：

1. 这件事不该我管的，副总工程师发给我是让我学习的，结果我“狗拿耗子，多管闲事”，把人给得罪了；
2. 在交谈中，忘了沟通的目的，不够客观，导致了与总设计师的沟通没达到预期效果。

简单的说，因为没有搞清楚副总工程师发邮件给我的目的，而去找总设计师；因为忘了沟通的目的，而导致没有达到效果，且得罪了人。

总之，一句话，今后做事，一定要搞清楚目的。

作为一名质量管理者，回答对公司管理制度的咨询是我的日常工作之一。今天接到一名中层干部不太客气的询问，让我情绪有点失控，有些激动和生气，因此在回答他的问题时有些生硬。事情大致是这样的：我通过邮件把检查工作的安排发给部门负责人，然后部门负责人再把具体的工作分配到中层干部头上。邮件里具体如何操作其实已经写的很清楚了。但是该干部就是不看，打电话过来，问可不可以这样做，可不可以那样做，而且声音特别大，感觉像是找我吵架来的。在回答的过程中，我已经是尽量克制自己的情绪，但那盛气凌人、咄咄逼人的气势实在在我受不了，我终于忍不住爆发了，让他在电话里给我读邮件的某个条款，渐渐的他声音终于小了，然后不知趣的把电话挂了。
 
论职位，他比我高，我的做法也确实有点冲动，尤其是做为一个工作不到2年的新员工。但我不是圣人，面对不尊重我的人，我能做的只是以牙还牙。

没错，我不是一个理性的人。换做你，你会怎么做？
